Shocking footage has emerged showing students from Nottingham Trent University apparently\u00a0chanting \u2018we hate the blacks\u2019 outside a fellow undergrad\u2019s door in her halls.<\/p>\n
Rufaro Chisango posted the disturbing clip onto Twitter, claiming it had been filmed on Monday night at the university.<\/p>\n
Guilty of misconduct<\/p>\n
In the clip, at least two men can be heard signing a number of football-style chants \u2013 but changing the words to adopt what appears to be racist language.<\/p>\n
The songs include, \u2018We hate the blacks \u2013 we are the black haters,\u2019 and \u2018ooh ahh f**k the blacks\u2019, while one man also responds to a female by saying: \u2018Blacks and whites will never be together.\u2019<\/p>\n
A woman also can be heard shouting \u2018leave her alone\u2019.<\/p>\n
Ms Chisango, the only black person on her floor, posted a message alongside the recording that read: \u2018Yoo I\u2019m fuming, the way people in the same uni halls as me are chanting \u201cwe hate the blacks\u201d outside my bedroom door.<\/p>\n
\u2018Words cannot describe how sad this makes me feel, in this 2018 people think this is still acceptable.\u2019<\/p>\n
On Twitter, she said: \u2018Okay this happened Monday night, the video wasn\u2019t able to catch what else they were saying which was \u201cblacks would go back to picking cotton\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m the only black person on my floor and they were chanting this outside my door so don\u2019t be surprised to why I didn\u2019t leave my room. I told the reception and they said that this will be dealt with Tuesday morning, they took my details and said they would inform me.<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019ve written a statement and have sent it to the uni and I\u2019m waiting for a response\u2026 but I want to highlight how serious this is and if I had broken their table or anything they would have dealt with it straight away but not this.<\/p>\n
The footage was quickly re-tweeted thousands of times after Ms Chisango posted it on Wednesday night, with hundreds of people replying to express their disgust.<\/p>\n
One of those who replied was the university in a tweet that said: \u2018We are investigating this as a matter of urgency. We are taking this extremely seriously and do not tolerate behaviour like this.<\/p>\n
Nottinghamshire Police also responded, tweeting: \u2018Good evening. If you\u2019ve not already done so, please can you give us a call on 101 to report this.<\/p>\n
\u2018Our team will be able to take the details of this incident and see what can be done.\u2019<\/p>\n
And Labour MP David Lammy wrote: \u2018Please contact the Police and your Member of Parliament and cc me in. All my love and solidarity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hundreds of people tweeted Ms Chisango after she posted the clip.<\/p>\n
Neil Stove wrote: \u2018This is beyond disgusting. This cannot be allowed to go unpunished. I hope\u00a0@TrentUni\u00a0expel these disgusting racist scum and\u00a0@nottspolice\u00a0charge them with hate crimes. I\u2019m so so sorry you had to experience this.\u2019<\/p>\n
Emily Sandwich tweeted: \u2018I go to Trent too, this is disgusting.\u00a0@TrentUni those students need to be named and shamed and dropped from their course. What can we (as Trent students) do to back you on this? Unacceptable.\u2019<\/p>\n
And Martha Longdon, student union president at the university, tweeted: \u2018Hi, I\u2019ve only just become aware of this, however, the behaviour you have described is unacceptable.<\/p>\n
\u2018Please could you DM me so we can start to resolve this? In the meantime if you have any immediate concerns for your safety and well-being I would advise contacting Notts Police.\u2019<\/p>\n
Ms Chisango wrote on her Twitter: \u2018I just want to thank everyone for their kind messages and all the support. Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that. \u2013 DR Martin Luther King JR.\u2019<\/p>\n
Two men have since been arrested<\/p>\n
