The speaker of the legislature in the Free State, Zanele Sifuba, has reportedly opened a civil case after an explicit sexual video of her was leaked on social media.<\/p>\n
The ANC parliamentary caucus in the Free State on Wednesday issued a statement, saying it had noted the issue of the video,\u00a0 received a briefing from Sifuba and discouraged the continued circulation of any material related to the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cCde Sifuba has henceforth indicated to have opened a civil claim and as a result advises all to respect her decision in dealing with this matter. The ANC caucus wishes to state that it has full confidence in Cde Zanele and supports her in what seems to be an attack to her integrity. We wish Cde Zanele strength, wisdom and courage to carry out her responsibilities,\u201d said ANC chief whip Thabo Meeko.<\/p>\n

In 1995, she was elected deputy secretary of the\u00a0African National Congress\u00a0in the party’s President Steyn region.She also held leadership positions in the\u00a0South African Democratic Teachers Union.Sifuba was the deputy provincial chairperson<\/p>\n
Sifuba is currently a member of the ANC’s subcommittees on economic development and gender and equity.
\nIn March 2019, Sifuba was placed twelfth on the ANC’s provincial list.She was elected as the ANC won 19 seats in the\u00a0Free State Provincial Legislature. Sifuba was sworn in as an MPL on 22 May 2019. On the same day, she was elected speaker.<\/p>\n
